If ‘Blue Bloods’ Ends, CBS Should Give Tom Selleck This New Series!
If ‘Blue Bloods‘ genuinely is ending, CBS should consider a new series for Tom Selleck! After 14 brilliant seasons as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, Selleck’s skill deserved to shine in another role. He has indicated interest in restarting the Jesse Stone franchise since 2015, and with such high ratings, CBS would be wise to seize this opportunity to keep Selleck in the spotlight.
Tom Selleck Calls for More Jesse Stone – and We Agree!
Tom Selleck is eager to bring back the Jesse Stone franchise, and fans are on board! After nine films, Selleck has been trying for nearly a decade to produce a tenth installment. He expressed to Parade in May 2024 that if Blue Bloods ends, he’s ready to revive Jesse Stone, noting, “I love Jesse. And he’d be different. He’s older.”
While Blue Bloods began in 2010, limiting Selleck’s availability for Jesse, he did manage to do three more films, the last of which aired in 2015. The thought of an older Jesse is intriguing, especially since the series, like the successful Longmire, caters to older fans. Fans appreciate the combination of cr1me and Selleck’s renowned performance, so a return to Jesse Stone is an exciting idea.
Hallmark Retains Exclusive Rights to ‘Jesse Stone’
The main hurdle for CBS in resuming the Jesse Stone franchise with Tom Selleck is that they no longer hold the rights. The first eight films were made in partnership with CBS, but the last one, Lost in Paradise, aired on Hallmark. As Selleck mentioned in 2015, Hallmark bought the rights to two movies, meaning they’re still contracted for one more.
While it’s unknown whether Hallmark’s claim to Jesse Stone is still legitimate or whether they’re interested in another picture, the conclusion of Blue Bloods could shed light. Regardless, supporters hope Selleck will make the most of his post-Blue Bloods career by giving Jesse Stone a suitable sendoff–or perhaps continue the series as if he never left. If CBS does not take the lead, someone else is sure to!
